Michele Gruber
What does your job entail?
I am responsible for handling all graphic requests for my group, including those for sponsors, internal presentations, and conferences. Additionally, I coordinate various vendor orders and design numerous posters and flyers throughout the year. As new technologies arise, I get to showcase the amazing work we do here. Where else can you be on the cutting edge of technologies that keep us out of harm’s way and give us the sanctuary that we all deserve?
I also manage the Gallery at Forbes — a rotating art exhibit that I initiated a decade ago. I curate talented artists, photographers, painters, and others from around the Laboratory to showcase their work on the gallery board. Each piece tells a unique story and adds to the rich tapestry of creativity within our community.
How has your career at the Laboratory evolved?
Reflecting on my career here brings about a sense of gratitude and fulfillment. I started as a contractor delving into the world of PowerPoint and evolved my work into photography, video editing, and 3D graphics. These opportunities have allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. One of the highlights of my Laboratory career has been interacting with talented Laboratory artists during various meet and greet sessions. These gatherings not only enrich my network but also provide valuable insights and inspiration that have shaped my growth in the field. I am truly thankful for the experiences and learning opportunities I’ve had during my 21-year tenure at the Laboratory. I look forward to continuing this journey of growth and exploration.
Where do you find inspiration or motivation?
At work, I am constantly challenged, which in turn stimulates my creative side and pushes me to think outside the box. At home, I work on furniture restoration projects that allow me to express my creativity and see beautiful transformations unfold. I find immense joy when I see the look on someone's face after I turn a well-used family heirloom into a showcase to enjoy for generations to come. Moreover, coming home to my pets eagerly waiting for me never fails to lift my spirits and remind me of the simple joys in life.
What is a goal that you would like to accomplish in your lifetime?
I have been to California, Florida, Punta Cana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Detroit, New York, St. Lucia, Arizona, and Italy, but I would love to travel more. I love nature and beautiful places and want to see the rest of our great country and beyond, especially Iceland, Greece, Spain, Germany, and Fiji.
