Ivy Igbe

I was drawn by the opportunity to work in an R&D setting, where something new would always be happening. I wanted to be surrounded by people who had a passion for discovery.

What does your job entail and what are you currently working on?

My job entails managing Lincoln Laboratory's environmental compliance program. The Laboratory's operations do have an impact on the environment and the environmental safety team in the Environmental, Health and Safety Office helps to ensure that negative impact is mitigated. Currently, I am part of the Carbon Footprint Committee’s Scope 3 Emissions subcommittee and seeking to quantify our solid waste metrics and discover any opportunities to reduce solid waste generation.

How did you get interested in your field of study?

As many of us can relate, I highly enjoy nature and am in awe of the beauty and serenity it provides us. I figured I would be grateful waking up every day to go to work if my job afforded me the opportunity to preserve nature in some practical way.

What are some future goals or plans for your work at the Laboratory?

I plan to improve and refine my skill set further and provide transparency to MIT Lincoln Laboratory employees on environmental metrics such as energy use, waste generation, water use, commute information, etc. With this data, people may be able to make small changes in their daily lives toward environmentally friendly lifestyles.
